The main goal of TMJ testing is to determine whether the symptoms and pain you are experiencing are a result of temporomandibular joint dysfunction. There are a variety of sophisticated technologies and equipment that have been used to do this including, X-Rays, K-7 testing (a computerized mapping technology that records the position and movement of your teeth), and iCAT Digital CAT Scans.

Digital CAT scans are by far the most advanced technique for diagnosing TMJ and documenting the progress of ongoing TMJ treatment. CAT Scans are the only instruments that are able to record a 360-degree, 3-D picture of your entire head that can be viewed at any specified angle. In addition, the results of dental CAT scans take only seconds compared to the hours traditional X-Ray scans take. Since they are digital, patient exposure to harmful radiation is minimized.

There are very few dental CAT machines in use at dental offices today. The one used at Advanced Cosmetic Dentistry and TMJ, was only the second installed in a dentist office! This is one of the reasons we are regarded as the leading experts in treating TMJ.
