"My friends tell me, Cindy you're gorgeous! Now I wonder why I didn't do this sooner."
Alternatives to mercury fillings have become much more popular in recent years. This is because many people don’t like the look of metal in their teeth, and have decided to replace their metal fillings with porcelain or resin alternatives.
Porcelain fillings, also known as inlays, have been used to fill teeth for more than thirty years. At first their use was confined to the front teeth because they were not as strong as metal fillings. Since then, they have been significantly improved, making them just as strong as metal fillings and much more aesthetically pleasing. This is primarily because they match the color and sheen of your natural teeth.
Porcelain fillings can be used to restore cavities and decaying teeth or to replace the fillings you already have. They are custom fabricated for optimized durability and appearance, and have the strength and density needed to adhere to your teeth better than metal – usually lasting 15 years or more. The fit for porcelain fillings is also very precise, which means that they will seal better than metal fillings when placed correctly.
The process for creating porcelain fillings is relatively easy. During your first appointment with Dr. Bufo, he will take an impression of each tooth that needs a filling. Using the mold, our dental laboratory will be able to create custom-fitted pieces of porcelain that can be inserted approximately two weeks later. During your free initial cosmetic consultation, Dr. Bufo can explain the process to you in detail and answer any questions you may have.
