Improve Your Smile * Improve Your Life
Dental crowns are essentially full covers for individual teeth that are put in place to straighten, repair or improve the cosmetic appearance of decayed or otherwise damaged teeth. They are usually made of porcelain, gold, or a porcelain and metal mixture, depending on their placement and the level of damage of the teeth being treated.
In the past, gold was used to crown teeth, but these crowns were often unsightly, especially when placed on the front teeth. Crowns were also made of porcelain attached to metal, providing a more aesthetic look, but they still had the drawbacks of metal crowns, including a gray line at the gumline.
Dr. Bufo can restore your damaged teeth with new all porcelain crowns. Much like other dental crowns, porcelain crowns are placed over the entire visible portion of the tooth. Porcelain crowns seamlessly match the color, shape, translucency, and size of your natural teeth.
Regardless of the material they are constructed, dental crowns are fit and placed over the tooth using the same basic process. The first step is for Dr. Bufo to take a mold of the tooth. Using that mold, our dental laboratory is able to create a custom crown that will be fitted and permanently bonded to the tooth. The crown and the bonding used must match your natural teeth. A qualified cosmetic dentist, like Dr. Bufo, will be able to work artfully with both materials and will provide you with a beautiful, natural-looking smile.
